Community Conversations for Parents Connect – starting 10th October 2018
”It’s not just another tick box, it’s another way to work, proper hands on – actually doing something”.
The main focus for the course is to enable local parents to help ‘make and shape’ services for children and families in the borough. It’s a way for parents to feed into decision making in a meaningful way and help make services responsive to the people who use them.
In the core part of the course we will be exploring a range of community research approaches and learning about our community – especially services for Children and Families in Lewisham.
From a personal point of view you will have the opportunity to develop a range of transferable skills for work and life including:
- Communication skills: including speaking, listening, presenting, writing
- Research skills,
- Interpersonal skills
- Working as part of a team
- Working in diverse community settings,
- Understanding diverse communities
- Problem solving
- Organising, planning and delivering a piece of work,
- Working in a team
- Working to deadlines & time management
- An understanding of safeguarding
The sessions are fun and interactive, you don’t need any previous experience or qualifications, just an interest in making a difference in your community. Participants have really enjoyed it and valued meeting other parents and doing something constructive together.
We provide participants with a creche, travel expenses, a certificate, a reference and a DBS.
