How many schools you can apply for?
When you apply for a primary school place for your child, you can put up to six schools on the application.
Most of the schools in our borough are likely to be oversubscribed, so we strongly recommend you look at your nearest schools, including faith or non-faith schools. You should use all six preferences when applying so as not to restrict your application.
Which schools you can apply for?
You can apply for schools in the borough of Lewisham or outside the borough. It is a good idea to research a range of schools, including ones closest to your home address, as not every child can be offered their first preference school.
Read the admission criteria for the schools you want to apply for. Most primary schools get more applications than there are places available. If you apply for oversubscribed schools, the admission criteria for the school is used to decide which children are offered a place.
Lewisham will offer school places using the following criteria. For the exact legal wording of the criteria, read our determined admissions policy.
Community schools – These schools use the criteria for community primary schools.
Voluntary-aided faith schools, foundation schools, the free school and academies
These schools each have their own criteria for deciding which children to admit. You can find the full admissions policy, annual intake and other information about each school in the school’s prospectus, which you can get from the school directly:
