Food Growing Workshops for families on a low income during October including Half-Term

Thanks toย AFRIL,ย 4in10 Charity,ย London Challenge Poverty Weekย with match funding fromย Lewisham Local, you can find free activities related to food-growing across the borough during October Half-term and beyond.

All the activities provide a free lunch and are aimed at families who are on a low-income.

Activities include:

Sunday 17th of October 1-2pm and 2-3pm

Venue: 71 Firhill Rd, London SE6 3SE

#CollectiveCultivation at theย Ital Garden will be offering 2 workshops at their site onย  Seed Sowing, Seed Harvesting and Growing your own at home

 

Monday 25th of October, 10am-12.00pm:

Venue: The Ringway Community Centre, 268 Baring Road, SE12 ODS

Exhibition of Grove Parkโ€™s Invertebratesย discover the world of invertebrates found in Grove Park with our macro-photography exhibition. Invertebrates are so vital to a healthy food production system, whether they are pollinating our crops or churning and decomposing our soils to make a healthy growing medium. You canโ€™t have food growing without the help of these mini-beats. Take home a wild flower seed ball to create your own pollinator meadow ready for spring. Book your placeย here.

 

Thursday 28th of October 11am-2pm

Venue: Wildcat Wilderness, Riverview Park, London SE6 4PLย  Everyone can grow food (even without a garden) and for free. Find out how to grow food in very small spaces, indoors in pots and growing for free. A free workshop for Lewisham families including a vegan campfire soup.

 

Thursday 28th October 1.30 โ€“ 4.30pm

Venue: Goldsmiths Community Centre, Castillon Road, SE6 1QD

Goldsmiths Community Centre and Kitchen Buddy (http://littlemisstree.co.uk/) are putting on free half term childrenโ€™s growing activities. Free food and drinks included. Join experienced gardeners in a foraging trail exploring Goldsmithsโ€™ gardens, discover seasonal edible plants, pick and make your own dinner and learn to grow your own food.ย  We will need carers/parents to please stay with their children for the activity. email: helen@goldsmithscommunitycentre.org.ukย for more information

Venue: The Ringway Community Centre, 268 Baring Road, SE12 ODS

Grow Your Own Microgreens Workshop โ€“ Wild Rangersย For this workshop we will be learning about how you can grow microgreens and sprouts at home. Microgreens tend to be promoted in higher end food health shops and often come at a premium cost. But growing them need not be that expensive. These little greens are healthy superfoods, packed with nutrients and flavours, and make great salads, garnishes and stir-fries. Book your placeย here.

Venue: AFRIL Allotment for Refuge

withย Action For Refugees Lewisham (AFRIL)ย at the AFRIL Allotment for Refuge. This workshop is open to families connected to AFRILโ€™s Helping Hands and Rainbow Club projects.
